The year 2009 will mark the 200th anniversary of the existence of the First African Baptist Church of Philadelphia. The 200 years have been years of ups and downs, bitter and sweet, excitement and tediousness, but for the greater part, rewarding experiences for all who have been blessed to serve the church and the community.
The Church has been an integral part of the ethos of the City of Philadelphia, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and these United States of America. She has contributed immeasurably to the development of our society, and to the maturation, advancement and improvement of many people in various walks of life, who are now scattered around the globe.
"The Old Mother Church", as she is affectionately called, stands as a Citadel of Liberty, for all blacks north of the Mason Dixon line. She represents the indomitable spirit of sacrifice, desire and faith exhibitd by our forefathers and is a constant reminder that her survival over these years was wrought in the fires of hope and prayer.
